[Rusty here]
There is nothing more that I love than coming home & walking in to see my two ladies waiting for me at the back door. Today I came home from work & heard Maddie RUN around the corner to greet me. I was expecting her normal hi, I love you & a hug followed by a kiss. Instead I got a VERY clear statement, “Daddy, I want to get earrings!”. I had to ask her again what she said in case I heard her wrong – I didn’t. Apparently the whole day Maddie had been begging Mommy to get her ears pierced so that she could have earrings. Summer had prepped Maddie that it hurts, but she would have to ask Daddy if he would allow it. Being the great daddy (AKA – Sucker) that I am, I just had to say yes. I told her that we could go get it done after dinner (Summer & I had talked about it for a while & discussed that when she was ready, we would be).
After dinner we went to Claire’s at the mall. Walking in to the mall Maddie could hardly contain her excitement, swinging around on my arm & talking about her earrings. She even got up on the chair all on her own. She had her mind set on Minnie Mouse earrings, but the cheap side of Daddy spoke up when we saw they were 55 dollars! We settled for some cute little flower earrings. Now apparently Claire’s doesn’t believe in doing both ears at once, they like it that way =). Maddie was happy until the very first KA-Chow! Boy did she lose it! The look on her face was one of a beaten dog, she started bawling soooo bad! Then the lady there expected her just to turn her head & take it in the other ear. That took some convincing. To prevent us from crying, Summer & I had a nervous laugh as people walked by staring us down for this type of child abuse we were putting our daughter through….oh well, we’ll never see them again.
Now we have a VERY happy girl that stops to look at herself in every mirror & see her earrings! Yeah!
