Marriage Retreat-Newport Beach
Rusty and I had been looking forward to February 20-22 for quite some time. We had it on our calendars and Rusty even had a count down on his work computer. Why these dates you may be thinking. Well our Sunday School group, Cornerstone, was having the marriage retreat that weekend. We’ve been in Cornerstone going on 4 years now and since we’ve been a part of it, there has not been a couples retreat…until now! YAY!
Maddie stayed at home with Grandmama for the weekend while we and 85 other couples went to the lovely Newport Beach. We had a great time hearing Chris Mueller preach on what it takes to have a God-glorifying and faithful and fufilling marriage. We enjoyed the scenery that Newport boasts of and had wonderful fellowship with new and old friends. We also had awesome food! Our bible study actually scheduled to go to the Old Spaghetti Factory on Saturday night for dinner. Rusty and I got there an hour early to put in the reservation for our large group (18 people). We were told it would not be a problem having this many people and that we would be able to sit together etc…Once everyone had arrived, we got the disappointing news that they wouldn’t be able to simply seat us for another hour and a half! WHAT!?!? No one really wanted to wait that long for…spaghetti! And Rusty had to be back to start a movie at the hotel in less than 2 hours. What to do??? Well, then my man…
…goes to action and calls up a VERY cute hole in the wall Italian family owned restaurant, Mama D’s. We had eaten there for our birthdays a few years back and really enjoyed their customer service and yummy food. Lo and behold, Rusty was able to arrange a table for our large group of 18 and we enjoyed a lovely dinner in less than an hour and a half! If you ever want to find a charming Italian restaurant, we deffinitely highly recommend Mama D’s. There’s one in Newport and also one in Manhattan Beach. http://www.foodnow.tv/mamads.html
To sum it up, we had a great and refreshing weekend with each other as well as other couples. We were very eager to get back home to see Maddie, especially since she had gotten sick Saturday afternoon with a stomach bug.
We are glad to be back home and eager to grow in our marriage in a way that will glorify God and show the world, through our marraige, the gospel.
By the way, here’s a picture a friend of ours took. Sadly enough we brought our camera and didn’t take a SINGLE picture! ENJOY!!
